Geography
The Commonwealth of the Bahamas area is about 13,939-sq. km. The
capital of Bahamas is Nassau, population about 164,000. Only 30
of the 2,700 islands and cays that constitute the Bahamas are permanently
inhabited.
Climate
The Bahamas enjoy a mild, semitropical climate. Annual rainfall
averages about 114 centimeters (45 inches). Temperatures average
84° F (29° C) during summer months and 72° F (22° C) during the
winter. From late August through October, the Bahamas is often in
the path of hurricanes and tropical storms.
