St. Johns Guide
Antigua & Barbuda > St. Johns
An ideal hub from which to explore the whole of the
nation, St. John's - the capital city also a centuries-old trading
port where the white baroque towers of its Anglican cathedral still
dominate the skyline.
You can indulge in many water sports here. Most resort hotels here
offer facilities for a range of watersports. And the equipment for
snorkelling, windsurfing boards and scuba diving are cheap and easy
to hire from the hotels that you stay. In addition, the coastal
water offers an excellent view of coral reefs which is also suitable
for swimming.
Besides that, among the city's attractions that thrill you are:
the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda (located in the Old Court House),
the preserved and restored buildings of the Redcliffe Quay, and
the weekend farmer's market on the southern edge of town all top
the list of things to do when not snorkeling around the reefs and
shipwrecks off Antigua's 365 beaches.
Side trips worth taking by everyone here is heading to the Betty's
Hope sugar plantation and to Nelson's Dockyard National Park, the
only remaining Georgian dockyard on the planet and home to the island's
Sailing Week festivities.
