Named after Admiral Lord Nelson, the dockyard is the only
example of a Georgian dockyard left in the world. English
Harbour, which houses the dockyard, was one of the finest
natural harbours in the Carribean and used to be home to
the British Navy during the Napoleonic Wars.
The dockyard is now part of a national park, complete with
museums, historical sites, restaurants, shops, hotels and
clubs. The area includes nice beaches, ancient archaeological
sites, and lots of nature trails. Its quay is now winter
haven for glamorous luxury vessels of the rich and famous.
Many of the charmingly restored colonial buildings still
offer marine supplies and help maintain the area's seafaring
atmosphere.
