Travel & Tourism . Tourist Guide to the Country

Taiwan Cafes and Restaurants

Chien Che Japanese Restaurant
Chien Che Japanese Restaurant is Taipei's inexpensively priced hotspot for high Japan cuisine, located on Chiukuang Street near the Confucius Temple. The atmosphere is pretty casual - with Sapporo girl posters on the walls and a minimalist interior seating no more than 25 or so - there's no shortage of good eating for the budget-bound gourmet.
Address : 94 Chiukuang Street, Taipei, Tel. 2592-0188.

Kwei Tai Lang Japanese Restaurant
Opened in October '98, Kwei Tai Lang Japanese Restaurant in Yung Ho aims to give diners a wide sampling of Japanese cuisine without having to spend a fortune. The restaurant is light, airy and clean, following the basic rules-of-thumb for Japanese restaurant decor, with black tables standing on a gray-stone-slab floor. The cooks work at the sashimi bar at one end of the restaurant, allowing you to point at any weird and wonderful seafood you want to try, should you wish.
Address : 275, Chung Cheng Road, Yung Ho, Taipei 2923-1867.

La Casita
One of Taipei's veteran Tex-Mex restaurants, which has gained a loyal following of regulars. It is also one of Taipei's oldest Mexican diners. This cozy little taste of old Mexico is tucked away down a clustered alley off of Pateh Road, right around the corner from CTV. La Casita's interior is warm and bright, with colorful cactus murals covering the walls and festive Mexican songs spicing up the air.
Address : 56, Lane 74, Pa Teh Road, Sec. 3, Taipei. Tel: (02) 2577-1534.

Patara Fine Thai Cuisine
With outlets stretching from Bangkok to London, Patara Fine Thai Cuisine restaurants have carved a strong following among lovers of Thai food the world over. An upscale, yet cheap, Thai restaurant tucked away in an alley behind Eslite Bookstore on Tunhua S. Road. The light, airy decoration is so unlike many of Taipei's dimly lit restaurants serving Thai food.
Address : No. 12, Lane 247, Sec. 1, Tun Hua S. Road, Taipei. Tel : (02)2731-5288.

Santa Fe Cafe
Tasty, authentic Mexican fare at reasonable prices. Offers a wide selection of Mexican cuisines. Much of what you'll eat here is made fresh from scratch, including the refried beans, red picante salsa, and, amazingly enough, the tortillas, which are hand-pressed and prepared when you order.
Address :150 Chaochou Road, Taipei, Tel : (02)2394-2181.

Sesame Station Cafe
Sesame Station Cafe is probably one of the most well-known yet hardest to find Western restaurants in Taipei, located in the Shih Ta market area. Western favorites such as the omelets, sandwiches and breakfast specials remain, but set dinners and a range of new dishes have been added.
Address : 74 Lungchuag St. Taipei. Down the lane where 7-11 is located. Tel (02)2363-8015.

Tandoor Indian Restaurant
The small but finely appointed establishment, located off Ho Chiang Street a block from Min Sheng East Road, offers all the familiar dishes of the region, including, of course, tandoori, which are meats and other treats cooked in a traditional Indian clay oven.
Address :10, Lane 73, Ho Chiang St. Taipei. Tel: (02)2509-9853
New outlet : 17, Min Chuan W Road, Taipei. Tel (02)2598-8200.

Yuen Yuen Tea House
Amidst the indigenous atmosphere, Yuen Yuen Tea House, serves traditional fine noodle and other elaborately prepared snacks of native flavors. This is a place to satisfy your desire for unique Chinese snacks.
Address : 1, Chung Shan North Road, Section 4, Taipei, Taiwan R.O.C.
TEL : ( 02 ) 2596-5565 FAX : ( 02 ) 2594-8243
