Buddha's Birthday
May 22
Elaborate and solemn rituals are held at many Buddhist temples across the country and lanterns are displayed in the temple courtyards. In the evening these lanterns are carried in parades. It is celebrated on the 8th day of the 4th lunar month.

 

Memorial Day
6th June, 2000
This day is set aside to honor the soldiers and civilians who have sacrificed their lives for their country.

 

Muju Firefly Festival
Muju-gun, Chollabuk-do, 12 - 20th June, 2000
Exploring firefly, praying rite for flourishing of firefly, operating firefly nature school(field trips and theory class on firefly).

 

Kangnung Tano Festival
Kangnung, Kangwon-do, 16th - 20th June, 2000
Tano day, the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, is celebrated with a ritual ceremony to the spirit of Taegwallyong Pass, shamanistic rites, mask dance dramas, and other folklore events which are all held in the hopes of a bumper harvest.

 

Constitution Day
17th July, 2000
This holiday commemorates the proclamation of the constitution of the Republic of Korea on July 17, 1948.

 

Liberation Day
15th August, 2000
This day commemorates the Japanese acceptance of the Allied terms of surrender and the resulting liberation of Korea in 1945.

 

Ich'on Ceramics Festivals
Ich'on, Kyonggi-do, 10th - 19th September, 2000
The famous potters of Ich'on present a ceramics fair and market, tea ceremony demonstrations, and other events all blended with a rich legacy of tradition and folk art.

 

Kumsan Ginseng Festival
Kumsan, Ch'ungch'ognam-do, 10th - 14th September, 2000
This festival, held in the midst of Korean ginseng production, will rejuvenate visitors by offering a ginseng cooking contest, a ginseng seminar, and free diagnoses and prescriptions.
