Administration
Under the terms of the constitution of the Sixth Republic, executivepower
in South Korea is held by the President, who is directly elected
for a single term of five years. The president appoints a ministerial
cabinet, which is led by the Prime Minister, and governs with its
assistance.
Legislation is the responsibility of the 299-member single-chamber
Kuk Hoe (National Assembly) which is directly elected every four
years: 253 members are elected through single-seat constituencies
and the remainder on national slates put forward by the main political
parties.
