Built approx. 1000AD by hand, the Ara Metua is a road almost
encircling the island, paved with coral and lava rock, said
to be built by the great warrior 'Toi.'
It is written by the respected Archeologist Dr. Roger Duff
that this road evidence that the Polynesians have inhabitated
Rarotonga in the Cook Islands for over 1500 years.
The road has since been tar-sealed.
