History
Malta has a very rich history, going back to pre-historic times.
Many unique temples from the pre-historic age can still be found
on the islands of Malta and Gozo. Malta became an independent country
on September 21, 1964 and is a member of the Commonwealth.
On the 13th of December of 1974, by an act of Parliament, Malta
was declared a republic. The first president of the republic was
appointed in December of 1974.
