Gyor is a city in northwest Hungary near the Austrian border.
A Jewish presence in the city dates from the late 1300's.
Prior to the Nazi occupation of Hungary in March, 1944,
most of the male Jews had been sent to Hugarian labor camps.
In June, 1944, the remaining Jews (about 5,000) were deported
to Auschwitz. The Jewish population today is probably less
than 200.
