Cycling
As it is a favoured recreation, many west Germany cities
boast super- smooth cycling trails. While the East German
roads can be another great area for cycling too, except
for the potholes. Travel light and may be able to spend
weeks wending your way from town to town on a biking
expedition.

Hiking
Hikers are well- cater for with the marked trails in
the Black Forest, the Harz Mountains and the Bavarian
Alps. The Alps are probably the most popular hiking
area, but the trails do get crowded, especially during
holiday periods.

Skiing
During winter, skiing is the most popular activity around
Aachen. One can either choose to ski downhill and cross-country
during the winter season. The Black Forest, a vertically
challenged mountain, is well- known for skiing and is
a magnet for bushwalkers during the warmer months.

Boating
Germany's rivers and lakes are great for boating, with
cruises operating around Berlin, the huge lakes in southern
Germany and the Baltic Sea.

Sailing/Windsurfing
Sailing and windsurfing are some of the popular leisure
pursuits in Achen, especially on Lake Constance in the
south.
