Appalachian Trail Maintaining
Clubs - Appalachian Trail Conference Clubs are volunteer-centered
nonprofits which maintain the 2,160-mile Appalachian. Many
of the affiliated clubs offer a variety of outdoor activities.

Mountain Club (AMC) Chapters - The local connection to
the outdoors, chapter activities, led by thousands of dedicated,
trained volunteers, include hikes, canoe outings, outdoor
skills training, socials, and more.

Highpointers Club
- The quest of the Highpointers Club is a lofty one: to stand
atop the highest point in all 50 states. In 1998, the club
grew to over 1600 members.

Bow
Waters Canoe Club - (AB) Est'd in 1972 by people who enjoy
paddling the rivers of Alberta, British Columbia and beyond!
The club offers over 100 river tours, rentals, lessons, youth
programs, and social events. In winter, skiing and the Jackrabbit
Program kicks in. "When in doubt, PADDLE LIKE HELL !!!"

Racing - Adventure racing team. Wilderness freedom challenge:
whitewater, kayak, climbing, run, hike, orienteer swim, bike
mountain, paddle extreme multi-sport.

Club of Canada - Weekend trips to the mountains and week-long
climbing camps during summer. Activities include alpine climbing,
rock climbing, and hiking.

Ski Club - Managing a 45-km cross-country trail network
near Merritt, B.C. Canada. The trail system is also used for
cycling and hiking in summer.

Voyageurs Canoe and Kayak Club - (AB) Edmonton, extensive
trip schedule for canoeists and kayakers of all skill levels;
courses, boat rentals, social meetings, skiing trips and skating
parties.

University of
Alberta Outdoors Club - (AB) Activities include canoeing,
mountain biking, rock climbing, and backpacking. The year's
highlight is the New Year's Extravaganza where we take off
someplace warm for 10 days. Costs are extremely reasonable.
Membership is open to nonstudents. Annual membership: $10.

Club - (Greater Toronto, ON)Events include downhill and
cross country skiing, winter camping, and trips in and around
town; whitewater and flatwater canoeing, cycling, hiking,
camping. Membership is open to students, staff, faculty, alumni,
and friends who enjoy Ontario's beautiful outdoors.

club fellowship by meeting physical challenges. Based in Baltimore.

New Jersey - (NJ) Outdoor recreation trips specializing
in sailing in the Caribbean, South Pacific, Mediterranean.
Skiing in Colorado, Canada, and west US. Local hiking, biking,
and inline skating. Began as a cost sharing organization and
now is a for profit corporation. Adventures are quite ambitious,
pricey and popular with members.

Unlimited - (MD) A dynamic club based in the Annapolis
area that brings together individuals who are interested in
learning and participating in a variety of outdoor, adventure-type
activities. Current activities include kayaking, rafting,
hiking & rock climbing.

Allentown Hiking Club
- (PA) Formed in 1931. The club helps members "to escape the
crowded city; to walk, hike and climb for enjoyment and exercise
with nature loving companions; to maintain its section of
the Appalachian Trail;..." and to stimulate public interests
in the outdoors. Activities include hiking, walking, backpacking,
climbing, cycling, & canoeing.

Just a bunch of friendly down to earth folks, 'round Annapolis,
who like to have fun hiking, biking, canoeing, camping and
whatever else we think of doing. Heck it doesn't matter if
you've hiked around the block or around the world, everyone
is welcome.

Delaware Valley Chapter,
Appalachian Mountain Club - (PA, NJ, DE) With over 4,000
members, volunteers lead events including: day hiking, backpacking,
white water canoeing/kayaking, biking, cross country skiing,
snowshoeing, winter mountaineering, ice and rock climbing,
social, conservation and trail maintenance.

Metropolitan Washington Regional
Outings Program, Sierra Club - (DC) Organized in 1977
to promote the safe and respectful use of the outdoors as
a recreational resource. MWROP conducts over 200 hiking, backpacking
and other trips.

New York - New Jersey Trail
Conference - (NY, NJ) A coalition of 85+ hiking and environmental
organizations. Our constituent clubs have a combined membership
of over 100,000. Many clubs conduct a variety of outdoor activities
in addition to trail work.

Club - (DC) A volunteer trails organization with a membership
of 6,400. PATC helps to maintain and improve 970 miles of
hiking trails, 30 shelters, and 28 cabins in VA, MD, WV, PA
and DC. Activity sections include ski tours and mountaineering.

promote wholesome recreation, physical fitness and conservation

Club of Virginia Tech - (VA) Meetings and most outings
are open to both members and nonmembers. Outdoor activities
such as hiking, backpacking, kayaking, biking, climbing, skiing
and caving are organized each Thursday. The club maintains
about 40 miles of the Appalachian Trail on a volunteer basis.

- (AR) Founded in 1962 to save the Buffalo River from dams,
it remains a strong regional organization dedicated to the
preservation of wild and scenic rivers and wilderness. Members
range from Alaska to Florida and several foreign countries.

Tennessee Eastman Hiking
and Canoeing Club - (TN) An outdoors club, founded in
1946, offering a year-round program of hikes, paddling and
other activities. TEHCC also manages and maintains 127 miles
of the Appalachian Trail in Virginia, Tennessee, and North
Carolina.

Appalachian Trail Club, TATC - (VA) Founded in 1972, TATC
is a family-oriented group offering a variety of outdoor activities
including trail maintenance, backpacking, day hiking, canoeing
and kayaking, biking, car camping, rafting, skiing, rock climbing,
