The First National Congress of the Communist
Party of China was held in July 1921 in House No. 76, Xingyie
Road in the former French concession of Shanghai. Present
at the congress were 13 delegates, including Mao Zedong
and Dong Biwu. They represented 53 Party members then across
the country. When the congress was in session, the place
was suddenly detected, by a secret agent from the French
police station. The delegates had to move away and resume
the meeting on an excursion boat on Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing
County of Zheijang Province. The congress adopted the Party's
programme and a resolution, and elected the central leading
body of the Party, thus proclaiming the founding of the
Communist Party of China. The Site of the C.P.C. First National
Congress has now an exhibition room which consists of three
parts.
