It has long been reputed as the "No. one
tower in Jiangxi" and one of the "three grand towers south
of the Yangtse River" along with the Yellow Crane Tower
in Wuhan and the Yueyang Tower in Hunan.
The tower/pavilion got more fame since Wang Bo - a renowned
poet of the early Tang Dynasty wrote the "Eulogy to Tengwang
Tower". Unfortunately it was burned down in 1926 by the
army of Deng Ruzuo, one of the Northern Warlords. The present
pavilion, rebuilt in 1983, appears to be three storeys from
outside, but actually five storeys inside.
