Kaiyuan Temple

Kaiyuan Temple in Fujian

Situated at West Street in Quangzhou, this 1300 year old temple is one of the largest Buddhist compounds in Fujian Province. The Great Hero Hall (Daxongbaodian), the main building inside the temple grounds, contains 100 roof-support columns. Hence it got the name "100 Column Hall" in local folklore. The East and West Pagoda stand in front of the temple. Beautiful carvings suggesting a mixture of Western angels with traditional Chinese art images decorate the building.
