The Jade Buddha Temple, originally built
in 1882 at Jiangwan, was named after the two white jade
Buddha statues brought back to China from Burma by Monk
Huigen. In 1928, it was rebuilt in the present site - No.
170, Anyuan Road.
The architecture of the temple is of the Song Dynasty style
with three main halls - the Heavenly King Hall, the Grand
Hall/Three-sage Hall and the Jade Buddha Chamber. The giant
lustrous, gentle- and solemn-looking Jade Buddha in sitting
posture is enshrined in the Jade Buddha Hall. Enshrined
in the Reclining Buddha Hall is another statue of the Jade
Buddha in reclining posture, looking calm, carefree and
true to life. There are also other scriptures and valuable
cultural relics kept in the temple.
