The city is widely known as 'China's Silk City' and considered
as one of the most beautiful places in China. It is also the
home of the famous and excellent fermented Longjing tea.
Hangzhou is one of China's six historical capital cities,
with a history that dates back 2,100 years. Hangzhou is
one of China's biggest tourist attractions, drawing both
locals and overseas visitors. The magnet is the exquisite
West Lake, a large freshwater lake surrounded by hills and
gardens.
For nature lovers, among several places to visit are Yellow
Dragon Cave Garden, Sword Lake and Tiger Spring. Moreover,
there are several museums to visit in this city such as
the Huqing Yutang Chinese Medicine Museum, China Tea Museum
and Zhejiang Provicial Museum.
A visit to Hangzhou is incomplete without touring the famous
pagodas. Two most outstanding pagodas are the Protect Chu
Tower or Baochu Ta and the Six Harmonies Pagoda.
Getting There and Moving Around
By air
The airlines serve Hangzhou internationally and domestically.
There are some direct flights to most major countries, especially
from Singapore. Hangzhou's airport is about 15km from city
center and the taxi fare is approximately Y45.
Moving Around
Bus service in Hangzhou is extensive. Taxi services that
serve around the city area. Also, biking is another option
of getting around the city.
Boat tour is just another way of getting around and sight-seeing.
It is an extremely popular tour with locals and visitors
alike. To get on the tour, just stand by the east shore
of the lake.
