Description

Black-yellow, optionally with the arms. The lion symbolises the diocese of Bamberg and also occurs in the arms of Oberfranken. Arms from Stadler 1964-1971.

Stefan Schwoon, 9 February 2001

Black-yellow, adopted 17.04.1963. The county remained almost unchanged during the 1972 municipal reform and kept its symbols. Sources: Linder and Schmidt 2000, arms image from Stadler 1964-1972.

Stefan Schwoon, 7 August 2001

Adopted 28.05.1973, according to Dirk Schönberger's Administrative Divisions of the World website. From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:

The arms were granted on June 18, 1962. The arms are a combination of the arms of the two main landowners in the district, the monasteries of Bamberg and Ebrach. The lion is taken from the arms of Bamberg, the (canting) swine from the arms of Ebrach.

Literature: Stadler 1964-1971.
