Los Angeles, the second most populated city in the USA has
also been called, as 'The New Eden', 'The New Jerusalem',
'The New Babylon' and 'Lotus Land'. The city experience tremendou
move of history that it was called with such nicknames; from
a boomtown to Tinseltown.
The city has no shortage of opportunities to shove its
best facets. Every New Year's day the Tournament of Roses
Parade - marching bands, celebrities and 'flower- floats'
make their way down the Pasadena's Colorado Blvd.
One of the spotlights of this city is the famous Hollywood
billboard, which nestles at the hills above the city. Besides
becoming a tourist favourite snapshot spot, it stands as
a constant reminder of the movie industry.
The best place on earth especially to children is the Disneyland,
a special feature of Los Angeles. Situated at Anaheim, Disneyland
is simply a must go place. The theme park is a great way
to spend a family vacation and a perfect way to have fun.
Another theme park, the Universal Studios is among the
most popular man- made attraction in America after the Disney
theme parks. Visitors can speed through time on the vertiginous
Back to the Future ride, come face to face with dinosaurs
on Jurassic Park: The Ride, and confront Jaws on the legendary
Backlot Tram Tour. Terminator 2 (3-D), combining live stunts
with the world's largest 3D screen.
In addition, LA is a city where you can surf at the beach
in the morning and ski in the snowfields in the afternoon.
The beautiful LA coastline is a major city attraction. While
ski resorts are available in the northern part of the city
to accommodate the needs of skiing.
Other places to visit are the Museum of Contemporary Art,
designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki. It houses
one of the world's most important collections of paintings,
sculptures and photographs from the 1940s to the present.
Getting There and Moving Around
By air
Los Angeles International Airport - usually called by its
three-letter code, LAX - is the third busiest airport in
the world. This airport serves inbound and outbound flight
from the cities and other regions. Finding a flight or connection
to just about anywhere on the continent is never a problem.
By rail
Amtrak, the national rail system, operates up and down
the California coast. In Los Angeles, trains arrive and
depart from Union Station, an impressive Art Deco depot
one block from El Pueblo in downtown LA.
From Seattle and San Francisco, the Coast Starlight operates
several times weekly in each direction, running inland as
far as San Luis Obispo, where it follows US 101 down the
coast. There is also regular service from Los Angeles to
Phoenix, New Orleans and points beyond, as well as several
trains daily to and from San Diego.
By road
You can also try one of the many car rental agencies at
the airport, where rates are the most competitive in town.
Taxis are convenient but expensive. Shuttles, limos and
taxis serve the area's other airports. In addition, the
Burbank Airport has Metro and Amtrak connections.
Bus runs between the terminals and deposits you at the
LAX Transit Center, where you can swap to a city bus. Free
shuttles also run to the Metro Green Line Aviation Station,
where you can catch a train headed in the direction of Redondo
or Norwalk.
