Welcome to Sheffield, in medieval times the city was founded
on gritstone and steel. It endured for centuries on this sure
foundation. Grit and steel are our heritage, they are part
of who we are. Grit and steel can seem gray and dead, but
together they spark fire. Like Sheffield and its people, they
are strong and can endure.
This section of the river Don is an ideal stretch of river
for all types of canoe touring. the "FIVE WEIRS WALK" path
runs along the river bank for most of the journey makeing
all but one of the weirs easily portageable for those who
do not wish to run them.
