Visit this elegant 17th century palace, originally the
Amsterdam city hall and later a royal residence. The stunning
interior, particularly the richly ornate Civic Hall, is
much more lavish than the stark exterior suggests and is
well worth visiting.
This impressive building, completed in 1665, was built as
the new city hall of republican Amsterdam. No costs were
spared by the architect, Jacob van Campen, for this example
of Amsterdam's wealth that rivaled the grandest European
buildings of the day.
