Housed in the elegant and historic National Museum building,
the Singapore History Museum explores the rich heritage
of the people of Singapore. From our ethic and religious
diversity, to the struggle for nationhood. The museum traces
the trends and developments that have characterised and
shaped life in Singapore from as early as the 14th century,
right up till modern day.
Visitors can enjoy strolling through an early 20th century
Peranakan house, fully recreated from its imposing ancestral
hall, to the intricately decked-out bridal chamber. Or listen
to an audio-tour of delicate 19th century paintings of Southeast
Asian flora and fauna commissioned by Major-General William
Farquhar. Public programmes such as lectures, workshops
and hands-on activities are organised regularly to complement
ongoing exhibitions. Look out for announcements in the newspapers!
