A few hours drive from Davao City, Gen. Santos is a booming
town that has attracted many investors, primarily in the
food processing industry, such as fish canning. The city
is a major fishing port and is one of the country's biggest
tuna suppliers.
Originally occupied by the B'laan tribe, the city now hosts
a mixture of native Mindanaoans and migrants from Luzon
and the Visayas. Not far from Gen. Santos is the town of
Gumasa, a small fishing community with white sand beaches
open to the public.
The drive to this quiet village follows the scenic coastal
highway along Sarangani Bay. Visitors can get to Gen. Santos
by commercial flight.
