Rapid tidal currents in the Naruto Straits, literally "Roaring
Gate", create these fascinating whirlpools. Currents flowing
between the Pacific Ocean and the Inland Sea must pass through
the straits. Hundreds of whirlpools are created because
of the rapid currents crashing together. They "perform"
with each tide, four times a day, and the best day to go
is around the new and full moons day. A museum and sightseeing
boats are available for those who wish to better understand
this mysterious phenomenon. An artificially created whirlpool
in the museum shows you what it would be like to be sitting
at the edge of one.
