The Akashi Straits Bridge is also known as the Pearl Bridge
as it looks like a string of pearls when it is brightly
lit up at night. It is the longest suspension bridge in
the world with a total length of 3,911m. Carefully designed
to resist massive earthquakes and to stand up to the most
severe onslaughts of natural disasters such as typhoons,
this bridge is one of the strongest in the world. The bridge
allows for access by vehicles from the Kansai region on
the Honshu mainland to the islands of Awaji and Shikoku
much more convenient.
