The New Territories City Guide
New Territories, another beautiful city of Hong Kong which
is the unspoiled rural land, the ancient village and harbor
with a great scenic coastlines, ranges of hills and beautiful
country parks.
There are multiple of unique festivities celebrated here.
One of them is the Bun festival. There is only one Bun festival
in the entire world and it takes place once a year on the
tiny island of Cheung Chau. Experience the excitement of

Life in the New Territories, compared to Kowloon or Hong
Kong Island, is simpler and more indicative of traditional
China with an abundance of rural villages. If you are looking
for serenity and a city escape, New Territories is just
the right place.
A visit to Cheung Chau in New Territories is a great one-day
getaway from Hong Kong's urban turmoil. The island is appealingly
leisurely (as on Lamma, there are no motor vehicles), and
offers the best village of any of the major islands, decent
walks, and some okay beaches.
Capture a moment of history. Visit the Heritage and Architecture
Walk for New Territories, which covers 10 historic sites
in New Territories. The self-guided walk provides a great
way to learn about the history of Tai Po--once the pinnacle
of trade and the administration center of the New Territories.
Visit the art gallery in the Institute of Chinese Studies
with their main collection of 1,300 items from the Ming
dynasty to modern times. There's a traditional Chinese garden
in the central courtyard, bronze seals of the Han period,
rubbings and stone inscriptions of the Han and Sung periods.
Visit the Temple of 10,000 Buddha for a Buddhism service,
thousands of gold-leafed Buddha are gathered here. Or, you
may also chant in another monastery named Pak Tai, a pink
hexagonal pagoda. It's the richest and most elaborate of
Cheung Chau Island's nine temples; it's decorated with a
1,000-year-old sword.
Relax at the seaside; enjoy the scenic views and fresh
breezy air. There are many beautiful beaches with crystal
clear water, such as Water Bay, Pak Sha Chau, Kiu Tsui,
Hap Mun, and Ting Kau welcome you with cheer.
New Territories also offers neat golf courses around town.
Enjoy a tee swing at the Fanling - The Royal Hong Kong Golf
Club with three 18-hole courses.
Getting There and Moving Around
By rail
The Kowloon- Canton Railway (KCR) allows us to access New
Territories from Kowloon. There is also a Light Rail Transit
running from New Territories to the city of Tuen Mun and
Yuen Long.
By road
There are bus routes linking New Territories towns with
Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.
Moving Around
Public transport, like buses and taxis are cheap, fast,
widely used and generally efficient to bring you around.
Metered taxis are red with silver tops and green with white
tops in the New Territories. Biking is possible as well.
