Kowloon City Guide
Covering in less than 11 square kilometers (4 square miles),
Kowloon may seem small to some of us. It is just a district,
small and incomparable to the big, metropolitan city of
Hong Kong Island. Nevertheless, the features that this charming
district offer are unbeatable and special than the other
cities in Hong Kong.
Kowloon, or known as 'Nine Dragon' in Cantonese, is especially
known for its happening nightlife, shopping and restaurants.
It is also the home for various performing arts and landmarks
as well as historic places. Some of the places of attraction
are Hong Kong Cultural Center, Museum of History, Space
Museum, Sung Dynasty Village and the Promenade- waterfront
of Victoria Harbor.
Kowloon is also the shoppers' paradise. It is a shopping
haven, with its variety of shopping malls and world- class
hotels. The Nathan Road, or "Golden Mile", is one of the
shopping hubs, as it offers an abundance of shopping and
nightlife. Also, with two main entrances, Tsimshatsui harbor
or Kai Tak International Airport, Kowloon gained a reputation
of the opportunity for commerce and tourist destination.
Getting There and Moving Around
By rail
Three (MTR) Mass Transit Rail tunnels link parts of Hong
Kong with Kowloon. The Kowloon- Canton Railway (KCR) East
Rail, Light Rail (LR) and Kowloon-Guangzhou (Canton) Railway
(KCR) are the railways that serve Kowloon to various districts.
Kowloon-Guangzhou (Canton) Railway (KCR) runs from Kowloon
to the Chinese border at Lo Wu.
By road
The red colored taxis serve Hong Kong Island and Kowloon,
through its road tunnels.
Moving Around
Travel within Kowloon more on foot and road transportation
like buses and taxis. Kowloon has no MTRs for travel in
town.
