Belait is the largest district in Brunei, and the center of
the oil and gas industries. The main town in the district
is Kuala Belait, a significant town in Belait that is the
home of local government administration.
Among the attractions in this charming district are the
Sungai Liang Forest Recreational Park, that covers 450 meters
from the main Sungai Liang junction. This is one of several
parks which have been developed and maintained for public
recreation. Besides Sungai Liang, Sungai Mau, Sungai Mau
Recreation Park, Wasai Wong Kadir, are some other attractions
in Kuala Belait. For those who prefer a day of sun and sand,
Lumut Beach is simply perfect.
To get a view of the royal palace, the Sultan's residence,
Istana Mangeleda is situated within the Belait district.
Within a few minutes walk to town, there is a mall known
as Tamu Kuala Belait where souvenirs and local food are
sold.
Getting There and Moving Around
By road
Getting to Belait District via the coastal road takes more
than an hour from Bandar Seri Begawan. It is advisable to
rent a car, or to take a tour guide.
