Law texts

Law about the war ensigns of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

The law was adopted on 31 May 1993 and 14 June1993, in House of the Republics and House of the Citizens of the Federal Assembly, respectively, and proclaimed by the "Decree on proclamation of the law ..." of the same date. The law became valid on 26 June1993, and the use of the flags should start with the date when the law on coat of arms became valid.

There is a list of previous laws that this one replaces, and they are in fact laws of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY):

  • Law on war ensigns of the SFRY and rank and command flags, Official gazette of SFRY nr. 22/73
  • Law on the vessel commanders' ensigns and pennants of the naval forces of the Yugoslav Army, Official gazette SFRY, 46/75.

Decision about the command ensigns and rank flags of the navy vessels of the Yugoslavian army, of the 19th January 1995.

Zeljko Heimer & Pascal Vagnat, 29 January 1999

Flotilla Commander

[Flag of a Flotilla Commander]by Zeljko Heimer

The ensign of a Commander of Flotilla is triangular blue swallow-tailed with a yellow anchor in the canton. Proportions 1:2.

Pascal Vagnat , 24 January 1999

The indentation depth is equal to the hoist size, the anchor height is 3/5 of the hoist, and it is offset from the upper edge for a half of its height. Width of the anchor is 3/4 of its height and offset from the hoist for half of that width. There seems not to be explicit definition of the vertical size at the fly, but it seems to be 1/3 the hoist.

Zeljko Heimer, 26 April 2001

Brigade Commander

[Flag of a Brigade Commander]by Zeljko Heimer

The ensign of a Brigade Commander is triangular, red bordered blue swallow-tailed with a yellow anchor at the hoist. Proportions 1:2.

Pascal Vagnat , 24 January 1999

Border width is 1/10 of the hoist size. The anchor is 1/3 of the hoist high and width is 3/4 of the hoist. Half of that width is size from hoist to anchor. The same specifications shall be applied to the other pennants shown below.

Zeljko Heimer, 26 April 2001

Division Commander

[Flag of Division Commander]by Zeljko Heimer

The ensign of a Division Commander is triangular, white bordered blue swallow-tailed with a yellow anchor at the hoist. Proportions 1:2.

Pascal Vagnat , 24 January 1999

A division is smaller than a brigade. It is difficult to translate and the source of many confusions. Therefore, for the sake of differenciation , a division is sometimes called a "flotilla division".

Zeljko Heimer, 26 April 2001

Group Commander

[Flag of a Group Commander]by Zeljko Heimer

The ensign of a Group Commander is triangular, red swallow tailed with a yellow anchor at the hoist. Proportions 1:2.

Pascal Vagnat , 24 January 1999

Senior Officer afloat

[Flag of the Senior Officer afloat]by Zeljko Heimer

The ensign of the Senior Officer afloat is triangular, white bordered red swallow tailed with a yellow anchor at the hoist. Proportions 1:2.

Pascal Vagnat , 24 January 1999
