Istanbul Sailing Club was founded on 2 February 1952. It is the oldest and biggest yacht club in Turkey, with more than 3,000 members. The club was appointed as a "society of public interests". Among its founding members was Captain Ruhi Sarialp, who won with his crew a bronze medal in the London Olympics (1948), in the Triple Jump series. More recently, club member Enver Adakan ranked 8th in the Sydney Olympics (2000), in the Finn series.

Marmaris is located on the south-west coast of Anatolia, the Asian part of Turkey, not far from Rhodes. Administratively, Marmaris is in the departement of Mugla.
Marmaris International Yacht Club was founded in 1992 and has now
about 80 members.
The burgee of MIYC is blue with a white traditional sailboat and the
inscription M.I.Y.C. in white, with letters of slightly decreasing
size from M to C, placed horizontally beside the boat.
