Tadjikistan was created ASSR on 15 March 1925 and adopted a flag on 23 February 1929.

The emblem on the upper hoist looks like some kind of seal or “coat of arms”, but it’s not the later Tadzhik SSR emblem.

Red with in the upper hoist yellow name in sanserif in Cyrillic [Tadzhik] (RSS Tochikiston) and Cyrillic [Russian] (Tadzhikskaja SSR). Yellow hammer and sickle above.

The tajik inscription contains the special letter "ch" with “hook”:
R S S    T o c^, i k i s t o n
, which is different from the normal, “hook”-less, cyrillic "ch".
