Red hammer and sickle with star in a blue sun in canton, blue bar in upper part of flag. Adopted 11 April 1951

Specs.: stripes and canton unknown!; h&s placement and size unknown! Is the star really solid red, not fimbriated?

The emblem of the SSR was introduced 28 February 1922 (according to Hesmer [hes92]) and replaced by the current one on 11 December 1990. The purplish colour in the SSR emblem referred to the historical colour that can also be found in the current emblem and national flag. The central symbol in the SSR emblem (Mt. Elbrus) can also be found in the current arms.
