Presentation of the municipality

The municipality of Zelezniki was formed in 1995. The name of the municipality (Slovenian zelezo means iron) hints what is the most important economic activity in region, the iron industry.

Description of the flag

The coat of arms and flag are prescribed by decision Odlok o simbolih Obcine Zelezniki, adopted on 1 February 1996. The decision shall be published in the regional offical gazette Uradni vestnik Gorenjske.

The flag is green with a white pile containing the coat of arms. The apparent ration is 1:2. It is not prescribed in the decision, but is seems so from the image accompanying it).
The center of the coat of arms is in the middle of the line of 1/4 of the flag length from the hoist, but the exact size of the coat of arms is not determined by the text of the decision. From the image, it seems that the width of the coat of arms is about 1/3 of the hoist size.

The colours used on the coat of arms and the flag are determined on Pantone scale. However it seems that the blue and green shade codes are interchanged in both places in the text. I guess that it is a copying error never noticed by the municipal officials. I give here the "corrected" values:

  • Blue: Pantone 2995c
  • Green: Pantone 355c
  • Yellow: Pantone 116c
  • Black, gray Pantone 428c, 429c, 431c, 432c.

Coat of arms

[Coat of arms of Zelezniki]by Zeljko Heimer

The central charge of the coat of arms is a the smelting furnace. Two manufactured iron nails edge the coat of arms. The shield is quartered in saltire, chief blue, base green and sides white, together symbolizing the geographical characteristics of the community. In dexter there is a juniper branch symbolising the wood industry and in sinister three klekeljs as symbols of the lace-making trade.

Vertical flag

[Vertical flag of Zelezniki]by Zeljko Heimer

The decision prescribes that the flag is hoisted depending on how the coat of arms is set in it, that I interpret as possibility of both horizontal and vertical flag hoisting depending on the relative rotation of the coat of arms.
