Description of the flag

The flag and the coat of arms are prescribed in decision Odlok o grbu, zastavi in pecatu obcine in mesta Slovenj Gradec, adopted on 25 July1991, and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, nr. 8, 8 August 1991., pp. 345-7, with effect on 15 August 1991.

The flag is described in the decision as white, with a blue stripe along each of the longer edges of the flag, and with the coat of arms in the middle. Unfortunately neither the overall ratio, nor relative sizes of elements and position of the coat of arms are determined by the text, and it is only provided that "the construction sheet that pictures" things mentioned above "is integral part of this decision". It may be that the "construction sheet" show both vertical and horizontal flag, but since that is only speculation that may be  hinted by the text only, I just include the horizontal version.

Coat of arms

[Coat of arms of Slovenj Gradec]by Zeljko Heimer

The coat of arms can be blazoned as:

Azure, a city entrance with two watch towers argent grailed ( if that is the word to describe the "chequy masonry" pattern) Sable.

It is based on the seal of the city from early 14th century.
