The name of the municipality of Loska dolina means 'valley of Loz', Loz being a medieval town in the valley.
Zeljko Heimer, 2 September 2002
The flag was provided by the municipal temporary statutes Statutarni sklep Obcine Loska dolina, adopted on 10 February1995, and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 31/95, and by the definitive municipal statutes Statut Obcine Loska dolina, adopted on 20 May 1999, and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 49/99.
The flag was prescribed by decision Odlok o simbolih, obcinskem prazniku in priznanjih v Obcini Lozka dolina, adopted on 30 March 2000, and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 52/2000.
The flag is rectagular in ratio 2:1 (vertical), white, bordered
with green and white squares along the three edges, with the
coat of arms placed in the lower part of the flag.
There is no horizontal flag prescribed.
However, the image in the attachement to the decision clearly shows
the flag that is 11 green and white squares wide and 19 high. The
squares are prescribed to be 2 x 2 cm (sic!), so that the pictured
flag would be 22 x 38 cm. The prescriptions of the proportions of the
coat of arms also differ between the text and the pictures. The
image shown on the top of this page was made after the pictures
rather than the text of the decision part.

The coat of arms of Loz dates back from 1477. It shows golden St.
George slaying the dragon and on in chief dexter the Blessed Virgin,
all on a blue background on green ground and hill to dexter. The
modern municipality of Loska dolina reuses this coat of arms, as
mentioned in the municipal statutes quoted above.
It seems that the rather rudimentary artistic redention of the shapes
in the modern coat of arms is intented to remind the XVth century
original coat of arms. Further details on the coat of arms are given
in the aforementioned decision on flag and arms.
