Presentation of the municipality

Lendava (in Hungarian, Lendva) is a town and municipality in far north-west of Slovenia, in a region called Prekmurje ("over the Mura river"), Before the First World War, this was part of Hungarian kindgom (within Austro-Hungarian empire), and there is still a considerable Hungarian community living there. Lendava region is known among other things for the oil production, exceptional for Slovenia.

Description of the flag

The flag (ratio 3:1) is divided in three equal parts: green, white and blue. On the center of the white field there is the municipal coat of arms. The blue field is divided in three parts by two white stripes (proportions are blue:white:blue:white:blue = 2:1:2:1:2).

Istvan Molnar, 2 August 2001

The coat of arms and the flag of Lendava are prescribed by decision Odlok o grbu in zastavi Obcine Lendava, adopted on 12 September1996, published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, nr. 54, pp. 4547-8, 27 November1996, with effect on 4 October1996.

The decision shown in the official gazette does not have the graphical representation of the coat of arms and flag, but only the description.

Here is the translation of this (ambiguous) description:
"The flag of the Municipality of Lendava is made in proportions of the sides 1:3 (width:height). along vertical axis it is divided in three fields. The first field is green, the second is silver and in the middle it contains the local coat of arms. The coat of arms is proped to the first fourth of the white field and ended on the third fourth of the white field."
The colours are defined in the same way as in the coat of arms (though, in both places it is misspelled "Feflex" instead of Reflex).

The flag is hoisted either alone, or with both the flag of the Republic of Slovenia and the flag of Hungarian ethnical community (as far as I know, such flag is nowhere defined by Slovenian legislation, though some flag laws mention it, together with the right of its usage - I guess it is given to the Hungarian community to choose what their flag is, and in practice that means it is the Hungarian flag, with or without the Hungarian coat of arms, as they please).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms is described in the decision as follows:

"... on a blue shield of late-gothic shape. On it there is a rectangular fort standing on a green mount, under which there are running three silver (white) creeks in shield base. The fort is topped with a triangular roof, that bears a gold (yellow) triangular flag."
