Coat of arms

[Coat of arms of Kranj]by Zeljko Heimer

The coat of arms prescribed by the aforementioned decision is the same as the one prescribed by the decision Graficna podoba grba opcine Kranj, adopted on 16.September1991, and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, nr 15, p. 521, 30 November 1991,

The coat of arms is based on the coat of arms from a seal of 1530. It is made of a shield with a spread-winged eagle. The outline of the shield and the eagle is red (cinnabar red), and the field color is called cobalt-grey-black and defined as Pantone 428 c.

Former flag

[Former flag]by Zeljko Heimer

The flag and arms are prescribed in the decision Odlok o simbolih opcine Kranj, adopted on 26 September 1990, and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, nr 38, str. 1867-8, 19 October 1990, with effect on 26 October 1990

The flag is blue with the coat of arms in the middle. The shade of blue is the sme as for the coat of arms ( cobalt-grey-black and defined as Pantone 428 c).

Banderas municipales de Eslovenia, published in Banderas [ban] #58 (March 1996) refers to a decision adopted on 19 December1990, by which a white-dark red horizontally divided flag superseded the previous flag. This is erroneous but it seems that this bicolour flag has been used at least ocasionally, or maybe ornamentally as "landesfarben" even before 1996.
