Presentation of the municipality

Bohinj is a well known recreational resort with a wonderful lake surrounded by mountains.

Description of the flag

The coat of arms and flag are prescribed by decision Odlok o grbu i zastavi Obcine Bohinj, adopted on 15 June1995 and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, nr. 44, pp. 3453-6, 28 June1995.

The flag is in proportion 1:3, horizontally divided white-blue, with the coat of arms in the middle, whose size is prescribed to be 61x76 % of the hoist. There is no official interpretation of the flag colours, but I guess they are explained as snowcaped mountains above the lake.
The colours are prescribed as follows:

  • Green: Pantone Process Green
  • Blue: Pantone Process Blue
  • Red: Pantone 185 C or Pantone 185
  • White: 100%.

Coat of arms

[Coat of arms of Bohinj]by Zeljko Heimer

The coat of arms in stylized way shows the most well know scene of Bohinj, the church of St. John (Sv. Janez) and the bridge at the drain of Bohinj lake, with mountain rising behind those. The blue triangle there is the sky, so rest of green area is a steep mountain slope. The shield is bordered black. The image shown above is based on the construction sheet from official gazette.
