Alcanena is a municipality belonging to the district
of Santarém (old province of Ribatejo), with an
area of 127.3 sq. km. and 14 373 inhabitants (data from local authorities).
It is divided in 10 freguesias (communes). The main economic activities
are transforming industries and commerce.
