This city of 21,158 inhabitants was founded in 1825. The flag
is the symbol of the spiritual, physical and historical features
which define us as a town. The green stripes represent the
neighbouring territories of Aibonito and Barranquitas, while the
central blue stripe symbolizes Orocovis, the three towns having
formed the regional domain of the Cacique Orocovix prior to the
colonial period. The white stripes stand for the territories
granted by the municipalities. The shape refers to the initial
letter of Orocovis and Orocovix. The 17-pointed star represents
the sun and the geographical extension of Orocovis with its 17
subdivisions. The sun is the star and central objet of our solar
system, just as Orocovis is the geographical centre and the
fountain of light, energy, life, human and spiritual resources
for all of Puerto Rico. The colours of our flag represent the
very essence of our collective being, as a town gifted with great
human and spiritual values. The green represents the physical
colour of nature in our fields, and symbolizes hope and abundance
coming from our soil. The white represents purity, joy,
friendship and simplicity, and the spirit of hospitality of our
people. The blue is the symbol of our sincerity and nobility of
mind. It also the symbol of the sun and fidelity, and it is also
a synonym for energy, life, will and fighting spirit flowing
inside us and driving us towards the fulfillment of our goals and
aspirations in life.
