I have a feeling I have seen such a flag (white
background, the logo just above the centre, with
"New Zealand Railways" written underneath) used
during the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Not sure
exactly when it came into existence (I'd guess about
1973).

From memory this looks right.

New Zealand Rail was corporatised in 1991, privatised in 1993, and re-named
Tranz Rail (not TraNZrail) in 1995.

New Zealand Railways is no more, having been ‘corporatised’
as Tranzrail. Not sure exactly when that change took place, but I'd guess sometime
around 1995.

It has a flag too; I've seen it flying. I can’t
remember it exactly, but it's based on the design at
their website
(http://www.tranzrail.co.nz),
both the logo and the background. I can’t remember
whether it had any text on it or not.

New Zealand railways' (Tranz Rail) new ferry which
has just been launched in Vigo, Spain, will operate
between the North and South Islands of New Zealand,
flying the flag of the Bahamas.
