About the flag

Porsanger municipality is situated in Finnmark county.

According to [cjo87] Porsanger chose reindeer for its arms and flag because herding of these animals used to be important in the municipality in former times. The flag and arms were adopted by Royal resolution dated 16 June 1967 in which the flag is described as: "In red three leaping silver reindeer." It might be worth mentioning that the arms and flag originated with artist and official heraldic authority Hallvard Trætteberg and that in 1930 he proposed the same motive, though in white on blue, as a possible flag for Finnmark county.
