From the 1st January 2001 the former municipalities of Bergen, Egmond and Schoorl merged to form the new municipality of Bergen. The new municipality has not decided on a flag yet.

Bergen in Noordholland is a municipality with (1981) 14.238 inhabitants on
3355 hectares, with the villages Bergen (administrative center), Bergen aan Zee,
Het Woud, and Zanegeest). It is involved in municipal reorganization (see
<nl-nh-bg.html>), which so far produced no official flag.
Bergen is a small village near the North Sea. It was first mentioned in 960; in
1190 Bergen received a CoA from Count Floris III of Holland as a reward for the
support against the Westfrisians. It was gules bend argent between six an orle
merlettes. Merlets are heraldic birds without legs and beaks. (See <http://www.ngw.nl/b/bergennh.htm>).
Last year I saw several BoA's, probably banners or flags to attract tourists. On
19 Sep 1799 a combined Russian/English force was routed by troups of the
Batavian Republic and France, memorized by the Russian monument.
<Unfortunately> Bergen became an artists' center in 1915.
The flag: Sierksma's Nederlands vlaggenboek has:
The municipal colors are white and red. Mark Sensen just pointed out to me that
Sierksma's use of "colors" is mostly the summing up of the colors of
the CoA, from which no flag can be derived.
