Hoorn municipality

Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 67.529; area: 52,49 km². Settlements: Hoorn (seat), Blokker, Zwaag.
In 1979 the municipalities of Hoorn, Blokker and Zwaag merged to form the new municipality of Hoorn.
The flag of Hoorn was officially adopted 26 Mar 1957.
By municipal resolution of 13 Feb 1979 the flag of Hoorn municipality was officially adopted for the new Hoorn municipality. The flag consists of three equally wide horizontal stripes red - white - red.
The oldest known image of the flag of Hoorn occurs on a painting by Hendrik Cornelisz. Vroom in 1622. There are also images with on the central stripe a red horn. This variant has come into disuse.
