Municipal flag

Winschoten was the capital of the 'Oldambt' region, important because it was on the line Groningen city - Hamburg. In a fertile agricultural region.

The old unofficial flag of Winschoten was instigated in 1932, plain horizontal BW. The new flag contains the symbol of a fortress, which Winschoten used to be.
