Municipal flag

Appingedam is in northeast Groningen, just a few km. west of the gigantic project of Eemsmond. It is an old town, locally better known as
'Den Dam', on the 'Damsterdiep', an old canal between the Dollard bay and Groningen city. In olden times is was the capital of the region
'Fivelgo'.

The old flag (according to Sierksma, Nederlands vlaggenboek, 1962) was horizontal VW <nl-ge_ad.gif> and unofficial.

The present flag dates from later than 1962 <nl-gr-ad.gif>
