Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 14.094; area: 70,04 km². Settlements: Menaldum (seat), Beetgum, Beetgumermolen, Berlikum, Blessum, Boksum, Deinum, Dronrijp, Engelum, Marssum, Schingen, Slappeterp, Wier.
Menaldumadeel (Frisian: Menameradiel) lies in northwest Friesland.
The municipal flag: "Stripes of a length 1 : 3, yellow and blue with at the center of the blue a lying unicorn looking back." Established 23 Jul 1963; derived from the municipal CoA; The unicorn has been taken from a family CoA, but its significance seems to be a mystery.

Granted 20 Jun 1938. Azure a lying Unicorn looking back silver, accompanied in the right upper corner of a shell gold, in the left upper corner of a diamond silver an in the base of a leafless golden acorn, stem downward.
