Stylized Hiragana character KO in a disc represents flowing plenty water of Black Current and Izu Islands which Kozujima island belongs to.

The disc stands for ocean and the COA symbolizes people's friendship, unity and development in the future and desire for eternal peace.

COA adopted Jan 11 1978.
