On 21 December 1971 a contest was started. 77 proposals were
presented and examined on 8 Setember 1972. On 10 July 1973 The
oficial regional Bulletin published that the winner was the
number 25. On 28 September 1973 the emblem was adopted and
published. The design was made by Gino and Alberto Anselmi,
architecs from Napoles. The gonfanon, green with the emblem,
seems that wasn't never manufactured
Jaume Olle, 25 September 1998
The gonfalon and the emblem were adopted on the 30 October
1973 and not on 28 September 1973. The emblem is a stylised and
graphical representation of the three candles of the city of
Gubbio, in red colour fimbriated white on a white rectangular
field. The gonfalon is green with the emblem in the middle with
the words « Regione Umbria » written in red. There isn't any
official flag.
Pascal Vagnat, 26 September 1998
I can inform you that the 3 images in red contained in the
gonfalon of Umbria represent the "Ceri", wood
towers of about 500 kg., used in the historical-folkloristic fest
of St.Ubaldo, celebrated since 13th century, on 15th may, in
Gubbio (Umbria).
Mario Coletti, 3 January 2001
It looks like Region Umbria [Italy] has really not an own
flag. That leaves only the gonfalon. It is strange because above
is written that the gonfalon has red words on it, but of all the
rare pictures I could find on the net there were only pictures of
a gonfalon without the words.
