The community of Tounj is formed in 1997 from parts of the
community of Josipdol in the Karlovac County. It is situated in
mountainous regon between the Croatian coast and mainland,
between Gorski kotar and Kordun. The ancient rouad leading from
the coat to inlandpassed over small but swift river Tounjcica
(Tounjc<ica) as the bridge in the coat of arms suggest. The
coat of arms pictures in a blue field a silver massoned bridge of
two rows of three arches and in base a silver St. John the
Baptist's head on a golden plate.
The flag is dark blue with the coat of arms bordered golden in
the middle. Ratio 1:2.
The ceremonial flag adds the supporters, two lions rampant on an
ornamented compartment and a crown, above is the name of the
community and in the tongues oak ornamentation. Ratio ca. 10:19.
The design was made by company "Heraldic Art" from
Rijeka.
The decision is adopted on 13 May 1998, a copy of an officially
sealed document was kindly provided by Mijo pehar, Ogulin:
Odluka o imenovanju sluebnog grba i zastave Opcine Tounj,
13. 05. 1998. Klasa 021-01/98-01/02, Ur.br. 2133/20-04-98-6,
Opcinsko vijece Tounj.
This was subsequently issued in the local official gazette, but I
have no data on the issue. It was also at some time approved by
the Ministry of justice, administration and local administration
(that took over these duties [symbols approval] of the Ministry
of the state administration and local administration when it
merged with the Ministry of justice some years ago), but I also
have no info on when it was approved. I can confirm that it is
used, as I saw the CoA used on road signs entering and leaving
the community when I drowe there in June 2002.
