Description of the flag

Semur-en-Brionnais is a village of c. 800 inhabitants. Semur was the capital of the bailiwick of Brionnais, one of the 19 bailiwicks constituting the Duchy of Burgundy. Brionnais is renowned for cattle breeding (bovines of the Charolais race, plain white) and its Romanesque churches (Anzy-le-Duc, Châteauneuf, Igrandes, Semur-en-Brionnais).

The flag is a banner of the municipal arms. It flies over the castle St. Hugues, the birth place of St. Hugues the Great (1024-1109), abbot of Cluny (1049-1109).
